Your role in the team
- We are looking for a versatile and research-oriented Computer Vision & Optical Systems R&D Engineer to join our automated inspection team. In this role, you will be responsible for exploring, developing, and validating optical inspection methods and computer vision algorithms across all stages of technology maturation.
- You will bridge applied physics, hardware experimentation, and software development-designing experimental test setups, evaluating sensors and illumination techniques, and benchmarking algorithms to transform early-stage concepts into robust, reliable inspection solutions.
- Evaluate and select optical sensors, 2D/3D cameras, structured lighting, and illumination setups for challenging materials and surface conditions.
- Design, build, and maintain experimental test benches to evaluate the physical feasibility and optical resolution limits of new concepts.
- Develop data acquisition routines and hardware-control interfaces to capture high-quality, reproducible test datasets.
- Design, implement, and benchmark computer vision and image processing algorithms for automated feature extraction, image enhancement, and surface analysis.
- Compare classical image processing techniques with data-driven and machine learning approaches.
- Assess algorithm sensitivity, boundary accuracy, and false alarm robustness against measured ground truth.
- Plan and conduct comprehensive laboratory test campaigns to assess environmental and physical influences (e.g., ambient light, reflection, distance, vibration, and mechanical stability).
- Identify and troubleshoot noise sources, optical distortions, and systematic measurement errors within experimental setups.
- Calibrate sensors and measurement instrumentation to ensure high data integrity.
- Apply statistical methods and metrological principles to quantify measurement repeatability, reproducibility, and uncertainty.
- Define data quality criteria, automated validation checks, and data annotation guidelines to support iterative algorithm training and testing.
- Establish baseline acceptance thresholds and performance indicators for evolving technologies.
- Document experimental methodologies, trade-off studies, test results, and algorithmic limitations in clear technical reports and white papers.
- Collaborate with software engineers, robotics specialists, and project managers to support the transition of proven concepts into scalable tools.
- Present findings, proof-of-concept demos, and technical recommendations to internal teams and engineering partners.
Our expectations of you
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Vision, Optics/Photonics, Mechatronics, Physics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in 2D/3D computer vision, image processing, or optical measurement techniques. Hands-on laboratory and experimental mindset (assembling test rigs, aligning optics, configuring lighting, and handling sensors).
- Proficiency in Python (NumPy, OpenCV, SciPy, Matplotlib, Pandas) for rapid prototyping, analysis, and automation.
- Methodical experimental approach, strong analytical capabilities, and attention to measurement accuracy.
- Professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Experience
- Familiarity with hardware interfacing, instrument control, or camera SDKs. Experience with version control and collaborative tools (Git, Jira, Confluence).
