Your role in the team
- You design and develop Java-based microservices for our cloud platform and take responsibility for your components from implementation through to stable operation.
- You develop new platform features and integrate existing applications and devices into the cloud environment.
- You consistently work with TDD and Clean Code. Together with QA and the Product Owner, you define acceptance criteria and BDD scenarios.
- You help shape the team’s technical architecture, including through Domain-Driven Design, Event Sourcing, and CQRS. You work on domain boundaries, interfaces, and clear data ownership.
- You critically evaluate technologies for new initiatives, explain your assessment, and contribute your experience to technical decisions.
- You set up and enhance CI pipelines, and take care of container builds and deployments.
- You operate software in AWS and Kubernetes environments. This includes monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and providing third-level support for your components.
- As an experienced team member, you support your colleagues through code reviews, pairing, and discussions about technical decisions.
- You work closely with QA and the Product Owner, particularly on questions of testability, test environments, technical feasibility, and how best to scope stories.
- If needed, you’ll also contribute to our React frontend.
Our expectations of you
Education
- You have a degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent training and relevant professional experience.
Qualifications
- You have hands-on experience with microservices, event sourcing, CQRS, and event-driven communication, for example using NATS, Kafka, or MQTT.
- TDD, BDD, Clean Code, Clean Architecture, and SOLID are an integral part of your development practice.
- You are confident working with Docker and have built and maintained CI pipelines yourself.
- You are experienced in working with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
- You enjoy sharing your knowledge and have already supported less experienced developers through mentoring, pairing, or code reviews. This does not involve a leadership role.
- Modern frontend technologies don’t intimidate you; ideally, you’ve already had some initial exposure to React.
- You communicate very confidently in English.
- You take responsibility for your components beyond development and support them through to production.
- You constructively challenge technical decisions, explain your assessments clearly, and collaborate as an equal with Development, QA, and the Product Owner.
Experience
- You have several years of experience in backend development with Java and have developed distributed systems using current Java versions and Spring Boot or a comparable framework.
- You have experience operating software in cloud environments, particularly with AWS EC2 and Kubernetes.
