Your role in the team
- The Technical Lead - Digital OR Systems is responsible for the technical coordination, integration and operational reliability of Digital OR solutions created and supported by Digital-OR Solutions GmbH (DOS).
- The role focuses on the integrated system as a whole: the interaction between Brainlab products, CE-marked third-party products, DOS-developed control software, interfaces, infrastructure and customer-specific configurations.
- Acting as the technical interface between the DOS third-party portfolio, Brainlab Product Management, Technical Services and Brainlab R&D, the Technical Lead ensures that technical topics are understood in their complete system context, assigned to the appropriate owners and driven toward resolution.
- The role combines system-level integration knowledge with hands-on onsite troubleshooting, structured escalation management, configuration assessment, and the creation of practical DOS-specific service documentation.
- The role provides technical ownership and coordination at the level of the integrated Digital OR solution, ensuring that the combined system can be configured, deployed, serviced and operated reliably in the customer environment.
- Act as the central technical contact for Digital OR solutions integrating Brainlab products, CE-marked third-party products and, where applicable, DOS-developed control and orchestration software.
- Maintain a system-level understanding of product functions, interfaces, dependencies, workflows, data flows and configuration requirements.
- Coordinate technical integration, system configuration, commissioning and handover activities across DOS, Brainlab, customers and third-party suppliers.
- Review system concepts, integration approaches and customer-specific configurations, identifying dependencies, risks and gaps that could affect functionality, serviceability or customer operation.
- Define and maintain system baselines, interface assumptions, configuration requirements and known limitations.
- Contribute to technical standards and integration patterns for Digital OR deployments and support the technical evaluation of third-party products for integration into DOS solutions.
- Independently travel onsite when complex or business-critical technical problems require direct investigation in the customer environment.
- Analyze the interaction between Brainlab systems, DOS-integrated third-party components, DOS control software, interfaces, infrastructure, and customer-specific configurations.
- Reproduce, isolate, and document problems as thoroughly as possible, distinguishing between product defects, configuration issues, integration or interoperability issues, infrastructure-related causes, and operational factors.
- Assess customer impact, urgency and technical risk, determine appropriate next steps and provide clear findings to the responsible teams.
- Coordinate and follow up on corrective actions, configuration changes, workarounds, and product fixes through to a confirmed resolution or agreed next step.
- Clarify ownership for reported issues involving Brainlab products, DOS integration, DOS control software, third-party products or customer infrastructure.
- Initiate and manage structured escalations to DOS, Brainlab R&D, Product Management, Technical Services, third-party suppliers, or other responsible teams.
- Ensure that escalations include the complete system context, affected components and versions, configuration, reproduction steps, relevant logs or evidence, customer impact and timelines.
- Track open technical issues and dependencies across DOS, Brainlab, customers and suppliers, ensuring that actions remain visible and are actively followed up.
- Communicate technical status, risks, assumptions, workarounds and next steps to the relevant stakeholders, and identify recurring problems requiring system, process or documentation improvements.
- Create and maintain DOS-specific service documentation where third-party documentation is incomplete, insufficient, or not tailored to the DOS system environment.
- Document system-specific configurations, interfaces, installation prerequisites, commissioning, troubleshooting procedures, service workflows, recovery procedures and known limitations.
- Document special configurations and integration requirements needed for third-party products, Brainlab components or DOS control software to function correctly within the integrated solution.
- Provide clear diagnostic steps, recommended checks, escalation criteria, and the information required for effective remote and on-site support.
- Keep documentation aligned with current product and software versions, system architectures, configuration standards, and lessons learned from on-site cases.
- Explain complex system relationships and technical issues clearly; contribute to training, technical reviews, lessons learned and consistent documentation practices across the involved organisations.
Our expectations of you
Education
- An educational or practical background in systems engineering, computer science, biomedical engineering, IT, or a related technical discipline.
Qualifications
- Ability to understand how products, software, interfaces, infrastructure, workflows, data flows, and customer-specific configurations interact as one system.
- Strong diagnostic skills: able to investigate issues systematically, reproduce and isolate problems, and distinguish product defects from configuration, integration, infrastructure, or operational causes.
- Ability to assess customer impact, urgency, and technical risk, and communicate clear findings, assumptions, workarounds, risks, and next steps to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong technical documentation skills, including the ability to create practical configuration, commissioning, troubleshooting, service, and recovery guidance.
- Comfortable working across organizational boundaries with customers, product teams, R&D, technical services, and third-party suppliers.
- Willingness and ability to travel onsite when complex or business-critical issues require investigation in the customer environment.
- A structured, accountable approach to tracking open issues, dependencies, evidence, and follow-up actions.
- Profound English and German skills.
- Familiarity with medical-device integration and the coordination of CE-marked third-party products within a larger solution.
Experience
- Hands-on experience with technical system integration, systems engineering, technical services, or troubleshooting complex multi-component solutions.
- Experience coordinating technical issue resolution across multiple teams or suppliers, clarifying ownership, managing escalations, and following corrective actions through to resolution or an agreed next step.
- Experience with medical technology, operating-room systems, healthcare IT, or other regulated technical environments.
- Experience maintaining system baselines, configuration standards, interface assumptions, known limitations, or integration patterns.
- Experience delivering technical handovers, training, lessons-learned reviews, or service knowledge transfer.
