Your role in the team

  • As a (Senior) MLOps Engineer (m/f/d), you will play a key role in shaping our ML training and integration infrastructure.
  • You enable AI training at massive scale and prepare our systems for extreme operating conditions.
  • In this role, you bridge the gap between DevOps and Machine Learning Engineering, as well as areas such as Data and Simulation.
  • You support the Machine Learning team in integrating our training processes and the resulting models into software- and hardware-in-the-loop environments, ensuring full reproducibility, scalability, and a seamless developer experience at all times.
  • You ensure that ML models become deployable building blocks for autonomous UAVs across all domains, from perception to decision-making.
  • End-to-end ML integration: Whether developed in-house or sourced from open source, you work with the team to establish consistent processes for adopting and evaluating models and integrating them into the end-to-end autonomy stack.
  • Platform development: You actively shape our MLOps platform and build on existing components such as Kubernetes, MLflow, and GitLab.
  • You develop pipelines for training, evaluation, and deployment to run reliably both in multi-cloud environments and on our internal, isolated cluster.
  • Ensure reproducibility and traceability throughout the entire model lifecycle, from data and model versioning to experiment tracking and the Model Registry.
  • Evaluation and testing: You work with other teams, such as DevOps and Simulation, to develop environments in which model quality can be measured systematically and comparably.
  • Optimization for target hardware: You support the setup of pipelines for model optimization and improved inference performance.
  • Bridge between teams: You work closely with ML developers, software and systems engineering, and infrastructure operations, bringing the “ML in production” perspective to every team.

Our expectations of you

Education

  • Completed degree in a STEM field, e.g. computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or artificial intelligence.

Qualifications

  • You are confident working at the intersection of Machine Learning and DevOps, with a clear focus on the ML side.
  • Strong understanding of ML: You know how to train, evaluate, and improve models, and have hands-on experience with PyTorch and common formats such as ONNX.
  • Very good knowledge of Python and a passion for clean, maintainable software; knowledge of C++ is desirable.
  • Systems thinking: You think in terms of end-to-end solutions rather than individual components and maintain an overview even when models combine data from many sources.
  • Team spirit and a passion for shaping things: You communicate clearly and are excited to help shape a platform that is still taking shape.
  • Fluent in German and English.

Experience

  • Professional experience in MLOps or ML engineering with models and platforms actively used in production systems.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and MLOps tools such as GitLab, Kubeflow, MLflow, KServe, and artifact registries.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas is desirable: model optimization for edge inference (e.g., TensorRT, quantization), hardware-in-the-loop environments, simulation environments and synthetic data, and distributed training on GPU clusters.

What we offer

  • A unique opportunity to shape the future of autonomous systems at a world-leading aerospace company.
  • An inspiring work environment that combines the innovative spirit of a start-up with the expertise and stability of an established corporation.
  • A team of brilliant minds working together toward a bold vision for Europe’s technological sovereignty.
  • An attractive salary, flexible working hours, and excellent opportunities for professional development within the Airbus Group.
  • Hybrid working model (up to 40% remote work).
