Your role in the team
- As part of the Data Team at NPG Digital, you’ll help develop our data platform further—from processing event and business data to building models in our data warehouse.
- Your focus is on data modeling, because clean models are the foundation for analytics, dashboards, A/B tests, and personalization.
- You work across the entire data stack, from data pipelines and the warehouse to analytics.
- You will play a key role in shaping the structure of our data warehouse, from facts and dimensions to high-performance models for large-scale event data.
- Together with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, and Data Analysts, you develop solutions and standards that make data usable across the entire organization.
- AI is changing the way we work: Coding agents are increasingly writing the code.
- You make the difference when you understand the business logic, model it cleanly, and formulate requirements precisely enough for an agent to implement them reliably.
- You create a reliable data foundation for Product, Editorial, Marketing, and Sales.
- You develop reusable data models and efficient processing steps.
- Together with the team, you improve the quality, maintainability, and performance of our data platform.
- Design and implementation of dimensional data models based on Kimball: fact and dimension tables, star schemas, and conformed dimensions.
- Building high-performance One Big Tables (OBTs) and wide tables, as well as modeling historical data (Slowly Changing Dimensions, snapshots).
- Further development of our dbt-based warehouse architecture and shared modeling standards.
- Development and operation of data pipelines for event and business data, including terabyte-scale Snowplow data and incremental processing logic.
- Performance and cost optimization in BigQuery, for example through appropriate partitioning and clustering.
- Ensuring data quality through testing, monitoring, and clear documentation.
- Further development of orchestration, CI/CD, our Kubernetes-based infrastructure, and Infrastructure as Code with OpenTofu.
- Clarifying requirements and business logic with Analytics Engineers, Data Analysts, and business stakeholders, and developing precise specifications for Coding Agents to implement, including reviewing the results.
Our expectations of you
Qualifications
- Good knowledge of Python.
- Confident use of Git and an interest in shared development standards and code reviews.
- Very good German language skills, at least at C1 level.
- Understanding of business logic and data models to guide coding agents precisely and critically evaluate their results from both a functional and technical perspective.
- Knowledge of orchestration tools such as Airflow, as well as CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code with OpenTofu or Terraform.
Experience
- Several years of professional experience in data engineering or a comparable role.
- Practical experience with dimensional modeling according to Kimball, including historization and incremental models.
- Very good SQL skills, including working with large datasets, and experience with dbt or comparable data transformation tools.
- Experience in developing and operating data pipelines.
- Experience with cloud data warehouses, ideally BigQuery.
- Experience with different modeling approaches and a sense of when each approach is appropriate.
- Experience with event data, for example from Snowplow.
- Experience in the media or digital sector, for example with subscription, audience reach, or advertising data.
What we offer
- A role with a real impact on our data platform and data warehouse architecture.
- Permanent employment with an economically stable media company.
- Modern data environment (dbt, BigQuery, Snowplow, Lightdash) with large volumes of data and clearly defined use cases.
- Tailored professional and personal development opportunities.
