Tip: Link your cover letter and CV in your developer application!

Many applicants (especially programmers) tend to treat their cover letters and resumes as separate things. As if there was absolutely no overlap between the two writings. However, the combination of the two documents can enhance your application so that it really stands out from the crowd.

The shortcut already starts with the formatting. Applicants often spend a lot of time giving their resume a distinctive look. The CV should reflect your professionalism and personality. Designers or front-end developers in particular can score points with a well-structured and prepared CV.

However, many IT applicants tend to be less keen on dealing with letters. The cover letter is therefore often viewed as a mere formality. It is forgotten that HR managers scan both the CV and the cover letter in a few seconds. While creating visual consistency between the two forms, it can show in a rather subtle way that the applicant is very detail-oriented and cares about quality.

However, the link should not end with aesthetics. Make sure that your cover letter is not only tailored to the advertised position, but also contains references to your professional career. Points that were briefly mentioned in the CV, such as successfully completed IT projects, can be deepened in the cover letter. The cover letter is therefore a good place to also provide more detailed information about skills and experiences that were only described in one sentence or word in the CV. By creating this link, you strengthen both documents.
